What I’m Thinking About:
When we watch elite performers, it’s easy to think they don’t ever suffer or get demotivated. We presume they don’t have that voice in the back of their head telling them to take the easy way out.
They do have that voice it turns out. They just know how to ignore it. Everyone doubts themselves. These people let that voice speak its mind, then block it out. They don’t attach any credence to it.
Instead of listening to this voice, they act. The single most important factor to success is the ability to make things happen. This requires determination, resourcefulness, focus, tenacity, confidence, a willingness to look like an idiot, and an ability to do the work when no one is watching. There’s no room for doubt.
Believing in your abilities is the ultimate resilience. Discomfort invariable creeps in. Learning how to tune it out and control your outputs sets you apart. Avoid a victim mindset. Take full responsibility and do what you can, with what you have, wherever you are. These aren’t humans who don’t feel fear or doubt. They’re humans who take ownership of their fear & doubt; they continue to believe in themselves.
